Picture Me

Biography/Everyday life, United States 2010

Sara Ziff was one of the most popular international top models for many years. She was born in New York City in 1982 and began working as a model at the age of 14. She was quickly booked for major campaigns, including Dolce & Gabbana, Tommy Hilfiger, Calvin Klein, Stella McCartney, GAP and Ralph Lauren. Sara Ziff and her then-boyfriend, film school graduate Ole Schell, captured her everyday life on video. Schell accompanied her for five years, from her beginnings as a model to her rise to international supermodel status, both on shoots and on the catwalk. He interviewed fellow models, designers and stylists to impressively show what it really means to be a supermodel. Sara herself also picks up the camera. Her video diary contains images that provide an unvarnished look at the fashion world. Whether backstage at a catwalk show or in intimate interviews with Sara's fellow models, no one has ever been this close to the heartbeat of the fashion industry. The film provides insights into the modelling business, focusing on beauty and glamour, but also on the dark side of the obsession with beauty. Not only the very young models, but also those who are already successful, such as Irina Laszareanu, Tanya Dziahileva and Missy Rayder, talk publicly for the first time about their negative experiences.
