While in Torquilstone, Herald, Cedric and Gawain witness an incredible event – Front-de-Boeuf makes a laughingstock of Ivanhoe by beating him in a duel. Even though Ivanhoe’s visor hides his face during the combat, his friends are absolutely sure it is our hero ... who flees begging Front-de-Boeuf for mercy! Soon, everyone in the country is calling Ivanhoe a yellow-bellied coward. Oddly, our hero seems as carefree as ever and his friends don’s dare mention the event in his presence. Having heard a conversation between Front-de-Boeuf and Prince John, Rowena slips away from her jailers and warns her beloved of the news.
